Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants Becomes The Trevor Project’s

National Hotel Sponsor

Kimpton

The Trevor Project Partnership continues Kimpton’s longtime support of the LGBT community

SAN FRANCISCO, April 30, 2014— A longtime supporter of the LGBT community, Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants is proud to announce a new partnership with The Trevor Project, a leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning youth ages 13-24.  Kimpton is the first national hotel sponsor for The Trevor Project.

Since Kimpton’s inception, the company has been deeply committed to an overall philosophy of inclusion and diversity that celebrates the unique differences of guests and employees. Continuing a legacy of employee-driven philanthropy, Kimpton’s engagement with The Trevor Project originated in 2013 through employees who have a passion for Trevor’s commitment to saving lives of LGBT youth in crisis, and the organization’s message of empowerment, pride, bravery and acceptance.  It became clear when the relationship kicked off in January 2013 as a pilot partnership that the two organizations are strongly aligned on culture, beliefs and goals. This year, Kimpton will evolve its commitment to include a mix of marketing, social media, events and employee volunteer opportunities that will help The Trevor Project expand into new markets and raise funds to support its mission.

“One of the many reasons guests and employees love Kimpton is our philosophy of inclusiveness and the belief that everyone deserves to be appreciated for who they are,” said Kimpton Senior Vice President of Hotel Operations Barry Pollard, who has supported The Trevor Project personally and is currently an active member on Kimpton’s internal LGBT committee. “Our organizations share similar values. We both believe that inclusivity and diversity of thought, beliefs, backgrounds, gender and sexual orientation make our communities stronger. The Trevor Project provides a serious and much-needed service to the LGBT community and we’re honored to help the organization support this mission and raise awareness for this important issue.”

“The LGBT youth who turn to The Trevor Project for support often lack a sense of acceptance, just because of who they are. That is why engaging with organizations like Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, where diversity and acceptance are valued, is important,” said Abbe Land, Executive Director and CEO of The Trevor Project. “The Trevor Project is proud to partner with Kimpton.”

As part of the partnership, Kimpton will become the presenting sponsor of The Trevor Project’s Ambassador program. Trevor Ambassadors are volunteer groups in major U.S. cities that work to expand Trevor’s programs, communications and fundraising efforts, helping to ensure LGBT youth have the support they need locally when faced with a suicide crisis. Additionally, Kimpton’s active LGBT Employee Resource group, KPRIDE, which coordinates LGBT activities across the company, will work with existing Trevor Ambassadors at the local level to help with community outreach and regional fundraising events.  Markets where Kimpton has a significant hotel and restaurant presence that are also locations for Trevor Ambassadors include Chicago, Philadelphia, Salt Lake City, San Diego, San Francisco and Washington, D.C.

Kimpton also will work closely with the organization on TrevorLIVE, a semi-annual fundraising event that brings together top entertainers and corporate leaders to support The Trevor Project’s life-saving, life-affirming work for LGBT youth in crisis. As part of this partnership, Kimpton hosted the TrevorLIVE kick-off party on April 23 at the Eventi, a Kimpton Hotel, in NYC where more than 200 guests celebrated and posted #lovethyselfie photos in support of LGBT youth.

Kimpton’s guests can also become involved and help support The Trevor Project by using a designated rate code when booking their rooms directly through Kimpton. By entering in the code “TRPR” when booking, guests will receive 10 percent off of their total room cost and Kimpton will donate $5 for every room reserved using this code.

Over the last 33 years, Kimpton has developed strong working relationships with pro-LGBT groups such as the Mautner Project, National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association, The National Center for Lesbian Rights, The Transgender Law Center and The National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce. All Kimpton hotels are members of IGLTA (International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association), and TAG approved, a certification that assures gay-friendly hotel practices. Since 2004, Kimpton has also maintained a perfect rating on the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index.

4th of July Reflections

Tony Guadagnino

Fourth of July 2014 Holiday Weekend

Independence Day festivities will always bring images of family parties in the backyard, town picnics in the park, fun times at the beach, and the traditional evening show — fireworks!  However, this year, New York City almost cancelled their celebration because of the one Woman In Charge – Mother Nature.

Earlier in the week, a bright sun, high temperatures, and rising humidity prepared everyone for a warm and enjoyable weekend.  It turned out that Mother Nature was only teasing us. By Wednesday evening, things drastically changed, when at the snap of Her fingers, the sun disappeared behind thick dark clouds – and the heaviest of raindrops fell from the sky.  Heavy rain, like each droplet was filled with bags of cement, falling so fast and so hard to the ground.  Ever look out a window and the view is blurred because the rain skewed your view?  People in the area lost power from the sudden storms.  It was not a fun evening.

The following day began promising, with another sunny day and not a cloud in the sky.  People returned to the beach, playgrounds were filled with happy kids, summer camps hit the pools, and amusement parks were back open for business.  Once again, New Yorkers were planning their outdoor activities for their 4th, but Mother Nature laughed at us again.  With a blink of Her eye, the weather changed again, and heavy rain returned, bringing along lightning and booming thunder in its game.  (Go online and look for photos of lightning hitting 1 World Trade Center.)

Local weathermen began preparing everyone to keep away the beach, stay away from the parks, and plan your parties inside, as Mother Nature was about to give us a soggy Independence Day.  Talks about canceling all the fireworks shows began circulating around town – 4th of July without a fireworks show would be like Christmas Day without Santa Claus.  All we could do was sit and wait and see what She was going to do.

Her verdict?  New Yorkers woke to gray clouds and rain falling intermittently – until late afternoon, when the sun finally popped out, and stayed out.  The humidity dropped to a comfortable level, and a cool breeze blew.  But the best news came when the fireworks show went on as scheduled.  Beach time and park picnics were cancelled, but MACY’s and local towns were able to keep those bombs bursting in the air.  Mother Nature, you are forgiven for the ugly weather earlier in the day.

Of course, people like me made up for missing the beach by hitting the shore on Saturday – and due to Friday’s suspension, there were more people on the beach than ever.  As I write this article, lying on my beach blanket, towel rolled under my chin, toes digging in the hot sand, my neighbor is sitting just six inches away from me.  I guess Mother Nature wants us to chat and make a new friend.  I guess She figures that it isn’t possible to sit so close to someone and not speak at all … and She is right.

I hope everyone had a great 4th of July weekend!

Tony

Top Travel Apps: Great Finds For Your Next Trip

When traveling one of the things that make my travel simple and cost-effective are the apps I have on my iPhone.  The #1 thing I make sure I pack is my AC and car charger for my iPhone.  If you have been on a trip and forgotten your phone, you completely understand the lost feeling you have when you lose communication or even the entertainment apps to keep you busy while waiting on your flight.

Our goal is to highlight some of the apps we like to use while we’re traveling.  Majority of the apps on our list you can use for your smartphones plus your tablets.

TripIt      TripIt (Free) is an app that organizes all of your trip details including flights and your train tickets. No more wrestling your boarding passes, your mobile phone and your luggage through the gates.   Use this app for worry-free and paperless travel experience.

Uber    Uber (Free) is available in the Android – Google Play and Apple App store.  Uber hit 100 cities with the launch of Bejing in April.  You may use the Uber app anywhere within the 100 plus Uber cities and order a car.  The app will estimate the arrival time and send a text saying your drive is on the way.  Small photo with the Driver’s name and phone number pops up on the app.  A car icon on the map shows you in real time where the car is located.  If you don’t have cash, Uber can bill your credit/debit card at the end of your ride.

SleepSounds Logo    Sleep Sound HQ ($1.99 in Apple App Store) is one of our personal favorites.  Sleep Sound app has more than 500 natural and city sounds for travelers who need to surround themselves with sounds from home to get a good night’s sleep.  It’s difficult when you’re living on the road or living from hotel to hotel.  The sounds of home or natural helps you get the rest you need.  The Sleep Sound have over 19 categories like ocean, public places and household.  If traveling with children, try the white noise and pink noise to help your little one get some sleep.

MARINA RICE BADER’S FILM “ANATOMY OF A LOVE SEEN”

MARINA RICE BADER’S FILM “ANATOMY OF A LOVE SEEN”

GETS WORLDWIDE RELEASE ONLINE FOLLOWING

THE 2014 OUTFEST FILM FESTIVAL PREMIERE

B009_C007_0101PO

Subtitled Versions For a Number of Foreign Languages To Be Made Available

Including Spanish, Portuguese, French and German

LOS ANGELES, CA –Writer/director Marina Rice Bader (Executive Producer of Elena UndoneA Perfect Ending) is releasing her feature length directorial debut Anatomy of a Love Seen as a $5 digital rental on Vimeo via the film’s website http://www.anatomyofaloveseen.com Following the July 18th premiere of the lesbian-themed drama at the 32nd Annual Outfest Los Angeles LGBT Film Festival, Bader will immediately give the film its worldwide release as a streaming rental, breaking outside of and bypassing the traditional Hollywood distribution channels. In the age of YouTube and viral marketing campaigns, it’s becoming less uncommon for a feature to eschew theatrical platforms completely for a digital release; yet it’s quite unusual for a movie to be made available online immediately after a festival premiere. Typically films would travel the film festival circuit long enough for media and word-of-mouth to build. But in keeping with the “do-it-her-way-ethos”, Bader was set on the idea of exploring alternative distribution options in order to engage and connect directly with her fans, and get the film out to as many people as possible. On July 19th she will execute the innovative release strategy, making her new project Anatomy of a Love Seen available easily and affordably for fans to view around the world on any Internet-capable device. In addition, subtitled versions for a number of foreign languages will also be made available including Spanish, Portuguese, French and German. Following in the footsteps of filmmakers the likes of Louis CK and Joss Whedon who have taken on distribution themselves, Bader isn’t the first filmmaker to the direct-distribution game; but she is one of the first ever out filmmakers to offer LGBT audiences around the world and cinephiles alike a lesbian themed feature film as a low-cost digital release immediately after its first festival premiere. As the driving force behind Soul Kiss Films, her independent film company, Bader’s artistic direction is focused on one goal:  to create evocative, entertaining, and compelling movies by women, for women and about women. She’s successfully planting the seeds to do just that with Anatomy of a Love Seen, the forthcoming Raven’s Touch, and a new film set to shoot in December. Anatomy of a Love Seen stars Hollywood newcomers Sharon Hinnendael, Jill Evyn and Constance Brenneman.  This film within a film explores love in all its painful and messy glory.  Six months ago, Zoe and Mal fell for each other while filming a love scene, which led to an intense, whirlwind affair, followed by a devastating breakup. Soon after their split, things get complicated when the two have to meet on set once more to re-shoot that fateful sequence. Filmed in five days, this improvised movie based on Bader’s story, characters and outline fulfilled her desire to create a very organic and visceral experience.  Anatomy of a Love Seen was made on a micro-budget, but that hasn’t stopped a huge online buzz. Released just a few weeks ago, the trailer for the film is making a lot of noise having already garnered 350,000 views: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zWqQregDD_A   Anatomy of a Love Seen will be available streaming on July 19 for $5.00 for a 72-hour rental period at: http://www.anatomyofaloveseen.com

What is LGBTQutie?

LGBTQutie.com is the relationship oriented dating and social networking site for the entire LGBTQ community.

When was the site launched?

We launched in November 2013

What was your inspiration for creating LGBTQutie.com?

It has always been apparent to Co-Founders, Rachel Kimelman and Jordan Weiss that there has been a significant lack of dating sites geared towards romantic relationships for our community. We facilitated the development of a site with both custom coding and content.

Since the launch what has the most surprising element of LGBTQutie.com for your customers?

Our members were very thrilled to be a part of a site that is inclusive across a vast spectrum of sexual orientations and gender identities. We include lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, pansexual, queer, intersex, asexual and gender non-binary individuals.

Is there a cost to be a Member? Our members are also surprised that basic membership on LGBTQutie.com is free. Basic membership includes the ability for members connect with messages to one another and see each other’s full profiles and use social networking features amongst many other capabilities.  We also offer a premium membership at a current rate of $9.99 per month for those who want to have an enhanced user experience the site.  These features include video chat with other members, instant messaging capabilities, seeing which members viewed your profile and much more!

What are some of the Member benefits? The events page allows for members to create and search for LGBTQ friendly events nationwide. A member who creates an event can invite their friends on the site.  The goal for the events page is to better connect members of our community with one another.

When it comes to your dating site, what makes your company different from other dating sites?

In addition to our site being all-inclusive, we also created the LGBTQuestionnaire which asks tailored questions specifically related to LGBTQ topics. We also developed the Relationship Readiness Quiz which serves to identify what a member hopes to get out of the site.  Additionally, our site has a bi-monthly blog that contains specific LGBTQ related content.

What is the demographic of your customers?

Our site is available to any LGBTQ individuals ages 18 and older.

If someone has never been on a dating site, what is your advice for creating an attractive profile?

You get as much as you give with online dating.  We encourage members to put in effort by taking a few extra minutes to complete their profile and put up pictures for others to see.  People with completed profiles are much more likely to get better results with finding what they’re looking for.

Can you share some Do’s and Don’ts to online dating?

Make people want to talk to you.  Don’t dish out all your baggage on your profile before getting the opportunity to speak with someone. Don’t tell people your shortcomings before telling them your hobbies/interests and what makes you date-able.
